The Contemporary Body: Consistent, Efficient and Indifferent
Choreography is a way of using dance as a vehicle and body as a metaphor to illustrate the contemporary human condition. Through this quintet dance performance (including live musicians), Belgian choreographer Ayelen Parolin explores and probes into the integration and coordination of individuals in a group. The work is constructed using highly rational and logical principles, and through the repetition, mechanics and norms of the dance, it unveils how social and human interaction mechanisms gradually shape human behavior to reach a state of consistency, efficiency and indifference.

Autóctonos II
A quintet between a pianist-composer and four dancers, Autóctonos II calls into question the place of the group, and of “belonging to a group”, in this society of endurance, indifference and productivity that we call our own. Both abstract and “mathematical” at first sight, the piece bases its writing on the physical tenacity and commitment of its performers. A highly sensitive power, held together by an ever-finer thread.
An allusion to the circle – supposed to bring (back) together – and affirmation of stability, of order and standardization: the starting points of the choreographic development. To thus enable the hairline fractures in the system to express their sweat, the human frailties of every person, and to feel the group’s instinctive herding force, its warrior-like strength. Potentially just as much a force of exclusion as a force of resistance.

Ayelen Parolin is a dancer, choreographer based in Brussels. Her choreographic works have been internationally recognised for their diversity and unique aesthetic, and they are presented by festivals and theatres across the world. The protean body of work thus composed makes contradictions of its own, helping to shed light on the complexity of the self. As an unclassifiable and unpredictable choreographer, she navigates between several universes and aesthetics, constantly attentive to exploring different parts of herself and probing what links us to others. In this sharing session, she will unfold her trajectory as a choreographer and the evolution of her practices and concerns with her works.

Choreography Workshop by Ayelen Parolin [ended]
Ayelen Parolin will employ her work Autoctonos II, which is presented in this edition of #DANCELESS complex, as a starting point to invite local professional dancers and movers to take part and experience the unique form of structure as well as the movement languages in the work. With a series of exercises, she will also share her directing tools to guide the participants to a certain state of body, which is available, devoted and listening.

Biography
Ayelen Parolin
Ayelen Parolin is a choreographer and dancer. Born in Buenos Aires, she lives and works in Brussels. In Europe, she followed the exerce training in Montpellier and then worked as a performer. She started her choreographic writing career in 2003 and has since created more than fifteen pieces, including 25.06.76, Troupeau, Mal(e), DAVID, Hérétiques, La Esclava, Exotic Word, Autoctonos, Wherever The Music Takes You, WEG and with. In October 2021, she will create a new piece for three dancers, called simple. She has also created Nativos for the Korean Contemporary Dance Company, La Tribu for the Ballet National de Marseille’s 7even project and Primal for Carte Blanche, the Norwegian national company of contemporary dance, and will create a piece with the Barcelone-based collective of dancers Hotel in 2021.
Ayelen Parolin was bestowed the Pépinières Européennes pour Jeunes Artistes award in 2006. In 2016 she received the SACD choreography award for her whole body of work and the Pina Bausch Foundation grant for dance and choreography. In 2017, she received the Prix de la critique (Belgium) for her piece Nativos. Her work is produced and shown all over the world.
