Unlock Body Lab: Open Research Week - Hybridity, Convergence and Training of Contemporary Performance-making 

Institutionalization and specialization within contemporary performing arts training has provided the context where performing art makers need to identify and define their own relationship with existing aesthetic framework, as well as the connection and interaction to the contemporary sociopolitical reality.

Unlock Body Lab: Open Research Week “Hybridity, Convergence and Training of Contemporary Performance-making” has invited four artists, Chan Wai-Lok, Lawrence Lau, Joseph Lee and KT Yau to lead separate research groups to unpack the aesthetic implication within conventional training pedagogy from their previous experience working in different creative processes. They derive exercises, forms and language that can be comprehended from a more general perspective by using organic and dynamic approaches of experiment with their devices and understanding of various forms of expression to see how these could be inter-referential, juxtaposed, overlapped, transposed and developed.

Unlock Body Lab: Open Research Week is a series of open events their process, four artists, together with their own research team, will hold workshops, round table discussion, and lecture-performances to get in touch with the public in different independent art spaces, including Unlock Dancing Plaza studio, Tin Project and ngau4 gat1 dei6 who are the co-curators of this series. From the discursive events during the week with participants from different backgrounds, we hope to find a way to bridge from practices to performance-making.
