Stay with the Spin
Cheung Wai Yin
This programme contains half nudity
Performed in Cantonese and English
Stay with the Spin draws inspiration from the artist’s personal practice and experience in pole dance, confronting its cultural shifts and representations from the contexts of sex work and strip clubs to global fitness trends. The artist navigates the embedded aesthetics and politics through examining the dance form’s layered legacies, reconnecting with pioneers across different periods through every spin with the pole.
Momentary Echo
Sica Ho Tsz Kwan
Breath wanders consciously beneath layers of skin.
The body carries the weight and memory of all that I have lived.
When I observe this body, what do I see?
When you witness my dance, what do you perceive?
Shifting Still
Ching Chu
Shifting Still takes the established image of the sensual female body as its starting point. Through repetition and subtle shifts in movement, the work gradually destabilizes the prescribed notion of the female as object. By reclaiming repetition as an act of the subject, the choreography opens up possibilities for redefining and rewriting this image, revealing the fluidity of the female body between gazing and interpretation.
