“A Long Walk”
“This is a long winding road of darkness, where light only shines at the very end - as it is with creative forces; as it is in life.”

Since Ong Yong Lock arrived Hong Kong in the 1980s, he has taken root here, and has been inseparable with dance; dedicating himself to performances, choreography, and teaching, his 30 years long winding road in dance had inevitably gone through ups and downs and he remained persistent. Despite the long winding road in the long dark night, after more than 30 years of dance life, he starts racing on this path again, perhaps for the very last time.

“A Long Long Walk” (Work-in-progress)
Boundless and perpetual, without living nor death.
He runs, he trips, he falls, he crawls.
It’s a chase, it's an escape,
and it could have been fate.

The creative process looks like rambling through a dark endless tunnel. The only escape is to keep walking. Throughout his dance journey for over 30 years, from Malaysia to Hong Kong, Ong Yong Lock has created and performed in various projects and connected with people who inspire and become companions. This poetic moving image, using tunnel as metaphor, merge reality with visual imagery, reflects Lock's inner world and his relationships with those around him. Audience are invited to witness his creative journey by following his unstoppable momentum.

Dance films, a coming together of two art forms that empowers dance artists and filmmakers alike to rethink movements and transform storytelling. Tai Kwun joins hands with various arts centres in the region through Dance en Scene, an initiative which dedicates to commission dance films that invite artists to find inspiration from sites or themes of meanings and significance, celebrating the diversity of culture and artmaking of Asian artists living in different cities.
